What’s Happening at Good Shepherd
Potluck The potluck this month will be held next Sunday, November 4th. This month we’ll be having a Chili Cookoff Competition! Do you have a favorite Chili recipe? Please consider bringing it to share with everyone! There will be four categories: Hot Chili, Best Chili, White Chili, and Best Cornbread. The signup to compete or judge will be in the church kitchen at the pass-through window.
In addition, we’ll be having a board game day. Bring your friends and family and come enjoy a bowl of chili, and a game or two of something fun! Please feel free to bring your favorite board game from home (labeled for ease of identification).
The Good Shepherd Christmas Pageant is receiving some much-needed attention and care this year in the form of some scheduling, rehearsal and script changes. The first overhaul is that we will be inviting all the children of the church to take a script home and think about what part they would like to try out for. We will hold fun and low-key auditions on November 4 after the 10:30 service. We would love all the children to participate and any adults who would like to help. We also welcome children from outside the church to join us. Please pick up a script after church this Sunday and begin to pray for this endeavor. If you have any questions, you can reach Anne through the office or on Sunday morning. Thank you so Much!
Shepherd’s Bowl is a free community meal that Good Shepherd hosts every Thursday evening from 5:30-6:30. We feed and engage with between 20 and 60 people every week and, therefore, this is one of the primary ways that Good Shepherd is able to minister to and reach this neighborhood and city. As we continue to build up this ministry, we are in need of cooks, servers, people to set up at the beginning of the meal, clean up at the end, and sit and eat with the people who come. If you are interested and would like to find out more, please leave your phone number or email with Stephanie by calling 607-723-8032 or sending an email to gs.binghamton@gmail.com. She will pass it along to Anne Kennedy. Thank you!
Coffee Hour Update Do you live a good distance from Good Shepherd, but would like to be involved in a ministry at church? Do you have some time to serve, but don’t want to be locked in to serving on a rotational schedule? If so, coffee hour may be a perfect fit for you. Please contact Steph if you are interested in knowing how you can join the hospitality ministry!
Trunk and Treat With Fall comes Halloween and this year we hope to continue our tradition of opening up the church and the trunks of our cars, preferably stuffed with candy, to cold and excited children and their families. If you could help with this one-time event—organizing and/or attending—please see Anne or leave your number or email with Stephanie.

Good Shepherd Food Pantry With the holidays just around the corner, it is essential to keep our food pantry stocked with healthy food so that those who use it can feed their families well. Many go without the foods traditionally used at holiday time because they don’t have the money for such luxuries.
For this month and the next, please consider donating canned hams, canned sweet potatoes, instant potatoes, gravy, canned peas corn and carrots, bread mixes, stuffing, pie crust and fillings, cookie mixes, coffee and creamers, powdered milk, and anything else you’d like to bring.
Last Week
Last Week’s Sermon was called ‘He Has Passed From Death to Life‘, and was based on John 5:16-24. It can be listened to or downloaded here.
Preventing Grace Podcast Did you know that Matt and Anne have a podcast? They talk about everything from church polity to rustic breads. This week’s episode is called, ‘Marriage and Divorce part 1‘. This is part one of a two-part podcast by Matt Kennedy on the nature and meaning of marriage and the tragedy of divorce.
You can catch up on all of the older podcast episodes here.
Tuesday Morning Bible Study This Tuesday morning’s class was based on Leviticus 13-14.
This Tuesday morning we finished up our discussion of infectious skin diseases and moldy garments and move into chapter 14 where God provides a way back into the community for those who have been healed from an infectious skin disease. The shedding of blood, the washing of water…these symbolic acts tell us that the infections of the previous chapter were also representative of something greater than a physical malady. Sin is the universal malady with which we have all been willingly infected. It separates us from God who is holy and set apart from sinners. But this same God made a way for us to be reconciled and re-enter the camp. He has done so by his shed blood and by washing us with his pure water.

This Week
Christian Education: We have finished our first section of Systematic Theology and before we begin the next one on the attributes of God, we need to have at least one Question and Answer session. We’ve gotten a number of questions over the last month or so that we’ll be addressing tomorrow.
Class begins at 9:15am. Hope to see you there.
This Sunday’s Sermon will be based on John 5:25-29.
“Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself. And he has given him authority to execute judgment, because he is the Son of Man. Do not marvel at this, for an hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment.
Team Phillippians is working on the altar this Sunday.
The readings for this week are Jeremiah 31:31-34 and Romans 3:19-28.
Karen C. will be serving on the altar guild this Sunday.
Carrie M. will be working in the nursery this Sunday.
