What’s Happening at Good Shepherd
Ladies Spa Day There will be a Ladies Spa Day held at the Rice’s home on June 29th from 1-4pm. All of the ladies of Good Shepherd are invited to come and spend an afternoon lounging by the pool, having your nails done, and having massages. Please feel free to bring your swimsuits and take a dip in the pool to cool off as well! Consider inviting a friend that may not have a church family to join you. For more information, please contact Martha Rice. Please RSVP so that Martha and the team can plan appropriately.
CHURCH FAMILY FUN NIGHT! Mark your calendars! In lieu of evening services over the summer there will be a chance on the last Sunday of each month to gather and enjoy the season! Come relax, catch up with your church family, and enjoy games, snacks, songs and conversation. S’mores and bottled water will be provided. Bring your own blankets or lawn chairs, yard games, munchies to share, and an instrument if you play. The first event will be this Sunday, June 30, 6 PM, Church of The Good Shepherd.
Kennedy Family Vacation The Kennedy family will be taking their annual vacation in July. They’ll be enjoying some much-needed rest and will return to Good Shepherd in August. Please refrain from contacting them unless there is a medical/physical emergency. Tyler Van Fossen, the Pastoral Assistant will be available for meetings during this time, and the church office will remain open, and can be reached in all the usual ways.
Good Shepherd is excited to welcome The Rev. Marc Steele, and our seminarians, The Rev. Jerry Shriver Jr., and Mr. Ifeoluwa Ojetayo as interim preachers, and our retired bishop, The Rt. Rev. David Bena to officiate.
Potluck! Next Sunday is the first Sunday of the month which means it’s time for another potluck. This month we’ll be having an Independence Day theme! Please stay after the 10:30 service next Sunday and bring your favorite 4th of July dish to pass, but stay and have lunch even if you don’t bring a thing.
Scheduling Reminder If you need to make an appointment with Pastor Matt, please be sure to contact Stephanie directly at gs.binghamton@gmail.com.
Often when people come to speak with Matt after the service on Sunday, he’s already been working for over nine hours, and doesn’t always remember to put it into the calendar. This can cause double bookings, or forgotten appointments. Please keep in mind that the office is closed on Mondays and Fridays, but you can always leave a message. Thank you so much for your understanding.

Good Shepherd Food Pantry Summer is almost upon us and shortly children will be out of school and won’t have access to the school meal programs. What if you didn’t have the money to provide good healthy meals for your children? Where would you go? What would you do? You might turn to a food pantry like ours for help; so it’s important for us to keep it stocked all year long, so that those who make use of it won’t go hungry. Thank you to all of you who have contributed to this worthy cause! Please keep up the good work!
Items needed: canned meats and tuna, peanut butter and jelly or jam, cereal, canned fruits and vegetables, pasta and sauce, one box meals, rice, powdered milk, coffee, tea, cocoa mix, soups and stews and anything else you’d like to bring.
P.S. – Paper, cleaning supplies, and personal care products are always appreciated!
Last Week
Last Week’s Sermon was called ‘I Am From Above’ and was based on John 8:29-36. It can be listened to or downloaded here.
Preventing Grace Podcast Did you know that Matt and Anne have a podcast? They talk about everything from church polity to rustic breads. In this week’s episode, ‘Why We Can’t Have Nice Things’, Anne and Matt discuss a Christian group’s petition to get rid of a film version of Terry Pratchett’s “Good Omens” and other strange ways that some Christians (and those on the far left) behave around art and literature.
You can catch up on all of the older podcast episodes here.
Tuesday Morning Bible Study Last Tuesday we continued our study of the Gospel of Mark. We looked especially at Jesus’ first healings and miracles in Galilee recorded in chapter 1. The video cut out around twenty minutes in, so it’s in two sections.

This Week
This Sunday’s Sermon will be based on John 8:37-47.
I know that you are offspring of Abraham; yet you seek to kill me because my word finds no place in you. I speak of what I have seen with my Father, and you do what you have heard from your father.”
They answered him, “Abraham is our father.” Jesus said to them, “If you were Abraham’s children, you would be doing the works Abraham did,but now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. This is not what Abraham did. You are doing the works your father did.” They said to him, “We were not born of sexual immorality. We have one Father—even God.” Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and I am here. I came not of my own accord, but he sent me. Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you cannot bear to hear my word. You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies. But because I tell the truth, you do not believe me. Which one of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me? Whoever is of God hears the words of God. The reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of God.”
