What’s Happening at Good Shepherd
Capital Campaign 2017-2019 Final Update We have come to the end of our two-year Capital Campaign and wish to express our deep gratitude to everyone who contributed money and to everyone who volunteered time and/or donated works of art for the Artisan Craft Fair over the summer. We have collected over $150,000 which we will pay toward mortgage when we re-finance this Fall. This will leave us with a remaining balance of just over $120,000 which we will be able to retire over the next five years. We purchased our building in 2009 with a 30 year loan. Thanks be to God, we will pay it off in half the time. If by chance you have any remaining pledge amounts, please continue to give towards the Capital Campaign through this Fall. But next Sunday (October 6th) is the last Sunday to give any one-time gifts. Thank you again for your generosity and support! God has been very good to us.
Picnic Thank You to everyone who helped with the Picnic last week and to everyone who came! It went so well we will be thinking about how to streamline and make it even better next year. A big thank you especially to those who brought guests!
Marriage Class Next week Matt and Anne will begin their series on marriage during the 9:15 Christian Education hour. This will be an overview of the topics the cover in premarital instruction, with a special emphasis on communication. A great book to read before the class is Tim Keller’s The Meaning of Marriage. Looking forward to seeing everyone there!
Office Update From 9/20-10/6 Stephanie is taking a much-needed vacation. Anne Kennedy is filling in as Administrative Assistant. Thank you Anne! The email account will still be monitored, and the phone will be checked regularly. Please continue to contact the office to make appointments or if you need assistance.
Scheduling Reminder If you need to make an appointment with Pastor Matt, please be sure to contact Stephanie directly at gs.binghamton@gmail.com.Often when people come to speak with Matt after the service on Sunday, he’s already been working for over nine hours, and doesn’t always remember to put it into the calendar. This can cause double bookings or forgotten appointments. Please keep in mind that the office is closed on Mondays and Fridays, but you can always leave a message. Thank you so much for your understanding.

Women’s Bible Study The Women’s Bible Study meets every Saturday morning from 10 to 11AM. Women of various ages join together to study the bible, moving book by book, and verse by verse. All women are extended a warm invitation to attend. The ladies are currently studying the book of Psalms. The Psalms express so much from praise, forgiveness and gratitude for God’s grace and so much more. Join us while we study this ancient collection of songs and poems that has been woven into our worship services for centuries. Please contact Christine Osgood for more information.

Good Shepherd Food Pantry If you are in need and can’t afford to feed your family, do not be anxious about it. Food pantries like our member food pantry are here to help. Those who are able to afford a little extra help to support the pantry with good and healthy foods for those who cannot. God provides for those in need in this way. Items needed: canned meats and tuna, peanut butter, soup (other than tomato), stews, one box meals, pasta and sauces, fruit (other than applesauce), fruit juice, veggies, starches (other than dried or canned black beans), crackers, beverages (coffee, tea, powdered creamers and milk), and anything else you’d like to bring. Cleaning, personal hygiene, and paper products and are always greatly appreciated!

This Week
This Sunday Matt will be preaching on John 10:31-39.
“The Jews picked up stones again to stone him. Jesus answered them, “I have shown you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you going to stone me?” The Jews answered him, “It is not for a good work that we are going to stone you but for blasphemy, because you, being a man, make yourself God.” Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your Law, ‘I said, you are gods’? If he called them gods to whom the word of God came—and Scripture cannot be broken— do you say of him whom the Father consecrated and sent into the world, ‘You are blaspheming,’ because I said, ‘I am the Son of God’? If I am not doing the works of my Father, then do not believe me; but if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me and I am in the Father.” Again they sought to arrest him, but he escaped from their hands.”
This Sunday’s lections are Amos 6:1-7, Psalm 146, and I Timothy 6:11-19.
