Catechesis will be meeting in person this Sunday at 6pm in the children’s classroom wing.
There will be no catechesis meeting on November 22nd or November 29th.
Upcoming Schedule Changes All Bible Studies are cancelled for the week of November 22-29 and will resume during the following week.
Morning Prayer Good Shepherd will be having a daily Zoom meeting for morning prayer during Advent. Please keep an eye out for more information as it becomes available. If you’d like to take a look at what a morning prayer service looks like, please visit dailyoffice2019.com. The site should open to the proper service for the day and time that you access the information. If you’re accessing it in the evening, you’ll need to click ‘morning prayer’ to get to the correct liturgy, but the readings are automatically updated daily, making this a really simple way to access morning prayer (or any of the daily office liturgy). This is the tool that Good Shepherd will be using for the entire Advent season, so familiarizing yourself with the technology in advance would be a great way to start. There is also an app, available on the Apple store called The Daily Office, created by Benjamin Locher.
Zoom Mission Group There has been some interest expressed in putting together a mission group that meets by zoom for those that cannot attend an in-person mission group. If you would be interested in joining, please contact Jonathan Groves for more information.
Catching Up…
Last Sunday’s Sermon Did you miss last week’s sermon? You can catch it here. Last week, Mr. Scott Pineau preached on Matthew 25:1-13.
Christian Education If you missed Christian Ed last Sunday, you can watch it here. Matt continued the current teaching series entitled Controversies of the Apostolic Age. In part 10 we studied Jesus’ words to the seven churches in Revelation 2-3.
Tuesday Morning Bible Study On Tuesday Morning, Matt continued our study of the minor prophets in the book of Hosea. Chapter 4 is an indictment of Israel. In the context of his promises to save, God reveals his people’s sinfulness and the depth of their enslavement which also reveals the depth of his mercy and love. You can read Hosea 4 here. If you missed the Tuesday morning study, you can find it here.
Thursday Evening Bible Study This Thursday evening, we continued our study of the book of Ecclesiastes. We picked up in chapter 3. You can read Ecclesiastes 3 here.
In the 60’s a band called The Byrds took Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 and turned it into a hugely popular folk/rock song. But if people knew what Solomon meant by the poem, I’m not so sure it would be a hit. The Byrds’ point, as the Vietnam War was raging, was that there “is a time for peace” and that this is the time. Solomon’s point was that though we might wish we could determine the times and seasons…these belong to God and are out of our hands. We cannot conform reality to our desires but must rather learn to accept that to everything there is a season. You can watch the study here.
Men’s Breakfast and Bible Study is currently studying the book of Matthew.
Sunday Morning Worship and Christian Education
Both the 8am Service and the 10:30 service will be held in person at Good Shepherd each Sunday. We ask that if you come into the sanctuary for the services that you wear a mask unless you are unable, due to health reasons, and that social distancing be practiced at all times. If you are going to the masking optional area in the parish hall, please wear a mask until you get to your seat, sit in family groupings, and practice social distancing. Christian Education will still be live-streamed and is open to the public, however the class is being taught in the parish hall part of the building with masking optional. The 8am Worship service will not be live-streamed, but the 10:30 service will be available to experience online as well as in person on the property in both the sanctuary and in the parish hall worship space.
The live-stream of the 10:30 service will be posted on Facebook each week. The stream will begin on Sunday starting at 10:20am but the service will not start until 10:30am. You should be able to access it at this link. If you don’t have a Facebook account, you will still be able to view all of the services, classes and studies.
You can download the bulletin, including the scripture readings if you click on this link. In the bulletin, you’ll notice that there are links in the offertory section to take you out to two different means of giving electronically. If you would like to send your tithe electronically, these are the best ways to do so. You can still send your tithe in by traditional mail as well.
Christian Education will begin at 9:15 and will be available at this link. Currently, Matt Kennedy is teaching a series called Controversies of the Apostolic Age.
