What’s Happening at Good Shepherd
Mission Group Announcement Mission groups are taking a break during the month of July. No groups will be meeting as regularly scheduled. Groups will resume meeting according to schedule in August, but the meeting location and format for each group may change weekly. See your mission group leader for specific details. Regular group format and schedule will restart at the beginning of September. If you have questions about the mission group summer schedule, ask your mission group leader or see Ben Murphy.
Acolyte Practice and Potluck August 7th marks the start of the fall season. This means that our summer break is over. We’ll resume acolyte practice that Sunday, and there will be a potluck in the parish hall following the service. Please bring a dish to pass, if you’re able, and stay to enjoy a nice Sunday luncheon. We’ll be celebrating the renewal of Tom and Fran Hull’s vows that Sunday, so the theme will be Special Occasion Foods.
Update and Announcements If you have an item you’d like to have announced on Sunday morning, or included in the update, please be sure to forward the item to Stephanie by Wednesday afternoon, and specify if you’d like it announced or just listed in the updates. It will then be edited and forwarded to Anne/Ife to announce on Sunday and/or added to the paper and digital update.
Minister’s Calendar For those of you that serve on a ministry team on Sunday mornings, the new minister’s calendar will be coming out soon. With some of the changes happening within the congregation, there are many openings to be filled, and we’d like to fill them before releasing the new calendar. If you’d like to serve on a ministry team, and are a standing member of Good Shepherd, please see Steph Warner to find out where you can best help.
Life Choices Baby Bottle Fundraiser You are making a difference!
Thank you for your participation in Change for Life (Coins in the Baby Bottles) of 2015. The $659.05 collected by members of Good Shepherd will help men and women in our community before, during and after unplanned pregnancies. Change for life works!
School Supply Giveaway and FREE Barbecue Please begin to look for sales of backpacks, crayons, folders, etc in preparation for the School Supply Giveaway and FREE Barbecue which will be on August 27th noon to 2PM. This is always a big event and another way to reach out to the community with the love of Christ.
Good Shepherd Youth Group Youth Group will be cancelled for the entire month of July. The garden IS still growing though, so if you’d like to come and spend some time working on your mission, please let Mrs. Warner know.
Ongoing Ministries

“And as for your little ones…”
Vacation Bible School Vacation Bible School – Monday, August 1 through Thursday, August 4, 6:00-8:00 PM. Kids 5-11 are invited to join in order to go Digging for Treasure. Invite your kids and grandkids and neighbors. If you are interested to see how VBS runs or what goes into it, talk with Anna Dreher. She can give you an overview from afar or let you get your feet dirty in the digging.
If you have already volunteered to help with VBS this year, plan on staying for a short overview meeting of Digging for Treasure after the 10:30 service. We will meet in the children’s department.
Supplies for VBS – Please save all toilet paper and paper towel cardboard rolls. You can leave them in the children’s room next to the nursery. For a complete list of supplies needed that you may have at home, see Anna Dreher.
Children’s bulletins are available to help your children follow all parts of the service today. Please pick one up from an usher.
Health and Wellness Our bodies are “the tents” that the Lord has given us to house our souls. Begin to take care of the body which God Has given you. Check your blood pressure, blood sugar, and weight every Sunday in the Parish Hall 9-10AM. Please see Dolly Shaller or Carmen Swoffer-Penna for more details.

This Week
This week’s sermon is based on James 4:13-17.
Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”—yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.” As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin. (James 4:13-17 ESV)
Preventing Grace Podcast Did you know that Matt and Anne have a podcast? They talk about everything from church polity to rustic breads. This week, Matt and Anne are just about moved into their new home, but are busily unpacking, so you’ll have to wait until next week for another new podcast episode! You can catch up on all of the older episodes here.
Team Romans is working on the altar this Sunday with Chris Jones.
The readings for this Sunday are: Genesis 18:1-14 and James 4:11-12.
The PDF Bulletin for this Sunday’s 10:30 service can be downloaded here.
