Confirmation and Reception Bishop Dobbs will visit Good Shepherd on Sunday, September 18th. That doesn’t leave a lot of time to prepare for confirmation, but there is still time. So far four people have indicated they would like to take the classes (usually about 4 sessions). If you were baptized as an infant and would like to affirm your baptismal vows publicly as an adult believer in Jesus Christ and be blessed by the bishop, Confirmation is the way Anglicans do that. If you are not an Anglican and would like to be one, Confirmation is the way to do that. If you have already been Confirmed in another denomination but would like to become an Anglican, the bishop will also be doing Receptions. Please let me know by responding to this email if you are interested in being either Confirmed or Received!
Because people live far distances from Good Shepherd, the classes will be held over Zoom and they will all be recorded.
A New Name and An Update Home Groups, previously known as Mission Groups, will be starting up soon! Please be on the lookout for more information about the different groups.
Thursday Evening Bible Study Thursday night from 6-7 Jon is leading a bible study through the book of Judges. All are welcome. Come grab some dinner at Shepherds Bowl and then join us in the youth room.
Youth Group Resumes Youth group is starting up again on September 18th, 6-7:30pm. We will continue our study through the book of Hebrews!
Anyone between the ages of 12 and 17 is welcome to join.
Please contact Jon Groves for more information.

Church Picnic This Sunday is the annual Good Shepherd Church Picnic. Please join us in the parking lot immediately following the 10:30 service for food, games, a bounce house, and plenty of good company! Please consider bringing a dish to pass, and offering to help with set up or clean up.
The church will provide hamburgers and hot dogs, so please don’t feel obligated to bring a protein for yourself, however there will be grills available if you’d like to bring something else to grill.
Please consider bringing a lawn chair as seating may be limited.
Book Study of Generation to Generation The second meeting of the Generation to Generation book study in which we continued talking about the concepts covered in chapter one of the book, was held by zoom yesterday.
We plan to meet every month as we work through the book. If you would like to join us, or if you’d like to watch the recordings, please email the office.
Chili Cookoff! This year’s annual chili cookoff will be held on October 2 directly after the 10:30 service. We’ll have three categories:
- Meat (traditional pork/beef-based chili)
- Vegetarian
- Non-Traditional (white chili, chicken chili, etc.)
If you would like to enter the competition, please make sure your chili is present before the 10:30 service, labeled with your name and the name of your chili.
If you would like to be a judge, please let Steph know.
Volunteers for Tech team Are you a technologically capable person who would like to serve the church with your gifts? Good Shepherd is looking add a volunteer team to run sound and the livestream for our services. If this is a ministry that interests you, please reach out to Micah.
Sunday Worship and Holy Eucharist Both the 8am and the 10:30 services are meeting in person.
The 8am service If you are high risk, or at all nervous to be in social gatherings, this service is designed for you. All those who attend are asked to remain socially distanced throughout the service. The 8am service is not currently being live-streamed.
The 10:30am service You can download a PDF copy of the service bulletin here.
You’ll also notice that there are links in the offertory section to take you out to two different means of giving electronically. You can give online through Breeze or you can text a donation through Breeze at 607-882-6551. Good Shepherd also has a PayPal account. If you choose to give via PayPal you can avoid fees by paying directly from your bank. As always, thank you for your great generosity and kind support.
Shepherd’s Bowl Community Dinner A Community Dinner is served every Thursday evening at 5:30pm in the parish hall, a fresh tasty meal served by cheerful volunteers. This is a welcoming, friendly atmosphere for church and community members to come and enjoy, regardless of income. Terry Ray leads a beginners Bible study at 6:00 and anyone is welcome to attend. Please find our page on Facebook, Shepherd’s Bowl Free Community Meal, and follow, like and share posts, and invite friends. It all helps! As we try to regrow our attendance, we especially invite church members to come and eat and help welcome visitors. We are also in need of volunteers. If you’d like to join a team, can be available as a sub, or are even interested in being a cook, contact Martha Rice or Mary Schuster.
