From time to time…
We’re going to start a new feature here in the update. At the top of the update, you might find, from time to time, some interesting facts about things going on around Good Shepherd. Nothing that wouldn’t be shared publicly will be found here, but we thought it would be a nice way to acknowledge things that are going on within our congregational community. If you know of an item that might be fun to share, please do pass it on to Stephanie in email or by phone.

Last Week
Last Week in Adult Christian Education This was the fifth class session of our Christian education course on the 39 Articles. We discussed Article 9, Pelagianism, the necessity of God’s grace, and capacity of the human will to choose and do good after the Fall. You can listen in here: Article 9: The Devastation Wrought Through the Fall of Adam
Last Week’s Sermon: was called ‘If Anyone Suffers, Let Him Pray’, and was based on James 5:13-15. You can listen to or download it here.
Tuesday Morning Bible Study This Tuesday’s Bible Study was called ‘What is Owed’. We finished up Paul’s discussion of civil authority in Romans 13 as he moves on to discuss what is owed not only to those in authority but also to one another. There is a debt every believer is called to pay, a debt of love. Sadly we tend to redirect what is owed to others toward the self. Nevertheless, Jesus has died for us and has taken away our sins and is, right now, transforming our hearts so that self-love is eclipsed by selflessness. As Romans 13 draws to a close, Paul contrasts these two loves and exhorts his readers to live in keeping with the new nature Christ has given us.
You can view it here, or watch it below.

Preventing Grace Podcast Did you know that Matt and Anne have a podcast? They talk about everything from church polity to rustic breads. In this week’s episode, The Marriage Episode Matt and Anne Kennedy discuss communication in marriage, the way men and women talk to each other, and how a liturgical mindset makes for a healthy marriage. You can catch up on all of the older episodes here.
This Week
This week’s sermon is based on James 5:16-20.
Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth. Then he prayed again, and heaven gave rain, and the earth bore its fruit. My brothers, if anyone among you wanders from the truth and someone brings him back, let him know that whoever brings back a sinner from his wandering will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins. (James 5:16-20 ESV)
Team Romans is working on the altar this Sunday with Chris Jones.
The readings for this Sunday are: Isaiah 28:14-22 and James 5:16-20.
