Evening Worship Service Good Shepherd will have a monthly informal Sunday evening service beginning February 24th, at 6pm. Coffee/tea and snack at 5.30pm in the Fellowship Hall. This is a great opportunity to invite friends/family/neighbors who are considering coming to church, wondering about faith, to a peaceful, reflective gathering with lovely worship songs, scripture readings, prayer, and time to simply be in the presence of God together. Contact Anne Thompson, thompam02@gmail.com, 570-504-5908, with any questions, thoughts, etc.
Life Choices The baby bottles are here for donations for Life Choices! Last year we raised $756.68 in loose change and donations for services such as pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, parent education (smart choices), relationship mentoring, baby store visits, emergency aid, and more. Life Choices helps teens and college students facing unplanned pregnancies before, during and after. Please take a bottle home and put your loose change in it and return it to the church (empty or full) by Feb 24. Any questions can be directed to Christine Osgood.
Good Shepherd Annual Meeting The Good Shepherd annual meeting was held on February 3 at 12:30pm in the parish hall. Please contact the church office by email or phone if you would like to request a copy of the minutes.
The Soup and Stew Cookoff was scheduled to be held on February 3rd, but due to the annual meeting, the cookoff has been pushed back to the March potluck date. The new date will be March 3rd.
Mobile Food Pantry A huge thanks to all those who have volunteered and helped this ministry run and serve the many families in our community over the years. Jan 23, 2018 was the last Good Shepherd Food Distribution until further notice. We hope over the next year to re-establish a consistent team and register as a monthly Mobile Food Pantry site again. If you collected food from the Good Shepherd site, please refer to the Southern Tier Food Bank website to access the many other sites in the area.
If you wish to help lead this ministry, or volunteer, please contact Tyler Van Fossen. This ministry is worthwhile, and a great opportunity for outreach. The hope for the future is to build up a consistent team with committed members.

Good Shepherd Food Pantry With winter upon us, those of us who use the pantry can’t always get out and get to the store. That’s where pantries like ours come in handy. We can supply what is needed, however, the pantry needs to be restocked regularly so that no one goes hungry. The next time you’re out shopping to restock your pantry, please consider buying something to help restock the member food pantry too.
Items needed: canned meats and tuna, pasta sauce, shelf stable milk, coffee and tea, peanut butter and jelly, canned soups and stews, canned fruits and juices, condiments (ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, relish, salad dressings, etc.), rice in 1 lb. packages, one box meals, canned vegetables (other than beans), toilet tissue, paper towels, napkins, toothpaste and toothbrushes, deodorant (men’s and women’s) and anything else you’d like to bring.
Last Week
Last Week in Christian Ed we finished our discussion of God’s communicable attributes. After that we moved to the next section of our Systematic Theology Course in which we will study the Divine Will.
Last Week’s Sermon was called ‘For Not Even His Brothers Believed’ and was based on John 7:1-12. It can be listened to or downloaded here.
Preventing Grace Podcast Did you know that Matt and Anne have a podcast? They talk about everything from church polity to rustic breads. In this week’s episode, ‘I Can Do All Things’ Anne and Matt review a talk by Tim Tebow and how bible passages are used in American sports.
You can catch up on all of the older podcast episodes here.
Tuesday Morning Bible Study This Tuesday morning’s class was cancelled due to the weather.
This Week
This Sunday’s Sermon will be based on John 7:12-20.
And there was much muttering about him among the people. While some said, “He is a good man,” others said, “No, he is leading the people astray.” Yet for fear of the Jews no one spoke openly of him.
About the middle of the feast Jesus went up into the temple and began teaching. The Jews therefore marveled, saying, “How is it that this man has learning, when he has never studied?” So Jesus answered them, “My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me. If anyone’s will is to do God’swill, he will know whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking on my own authority. The one who speaks on his own authority seeks his own glory; but the one who seeks the glory of him who sent him is true, and in him there is no falsehood. Has not Moses given you the law? Yet none of you keeps the law. Why do you seek to kill me?”The crowd answered, “You have a demon! Who is seeking to kill you?”
Team Romans is working on the altar this Sunday.
The readings for this week are Jeremiah 17:5-10 and 1 Corinthians 15:12-20. The Gospel reading is John 7:12-20.
