Confirmation/Reception Classes This Sunday Matt will be teaching the next session of confirmation and reception classes. If you’re interested in being confirmed or received, please contact Matt at lambeth98@gmail.com to let him know. If you’d like to join in the classes, please read through the 39 Articles ahead of time. The class will be discussing Anglican history, ethos, worship and most of all, doctrine using the articles to guide the discussion. If you’d like further commentary on the articles, please consider reading Foundations of the Faith by Dr. Lee Gatiss.
Change for Life Campaign The Life Choices Change for Life baby bottles are due back next Sunday, March 1st. Please return to Christine Osgood, or drop at the church office. Thank you for your help supporting this worthy cause!
Shrove Tuesday Shrove Tuesday (known in some countries as ‘Pancake Day’ or ‘Fat Tuesday’) is the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. This year it will be on February 25. ‘Shrove’ comes from the Latin word Shrive, and means ‘absolution’. It is thought that the tradition started when families would eat all of the fatty, rich foods in the house so as not to be tempted during the penitent season of Lent. Good Shepherd hosts a free pancake and sausage supper to mark the day, which is followed immediately by a short ceremony in which all of the palm fronds from Palm Sunday of the previous year are burned to produce the ashes that are used for Ash Wednesday.
Ash Wednesday Ash Wednesday is a day of reflection in the Christian tradition. On this day that begins the Lenten season, Christians all over the world come together and have ashes imposed upon their foreheads as a reminder that we are all sinners and to “remember that we are made of dust, and to dust we shall return”. The ashes are imposed in the shape of a cross to remind us that Christ bore the weight of our sins on the cross and ultimately defeated death to offer salvation to all who would come to him. The Ash Wednesday services this year are on February 26th at 7am and 6pm.

Chili and Cornbread Cookoff! The next potluck will be held Sunday, March 1st. This time we’ll be having a Chili Cookoff Competition! Do you have a favorite Chili recipe? Please consider bringing it to share with everyone! There will be four categories: Hot Chili, Best Chili, White Chili, and Best Cornbread. The signup to compete or judge will be in the church kitchen at the pass-through window this Sunday. Please take a moment to stop and sign up.
In addition, we’ll be having a board game day. Bring your friends and family and come enjoy a bowl of chili, and a game or two of something fun! Please feel free to bring your favorite board game from home (labeled for ease of identification).
Ongoing Ministries
Tuesday Morning Bible Study This bible study meets every Tuesday morning at 9:05am to walk through different books of the bible, verse by verse. Taught by Matt Kennedy in the main room of the parish hall.
Thursday Evening Beginner’s Bible Study The Thursday evening bible study is a beginner’s bible study that takes place in the green youth classroom at 6pm each week following the Shepherd’s Bowl Community dinner. This is a great place to connect with others and learn more about what God has to say to us through his word.
Shepherd’s Bowl Community Dinner Each Thursday evening, Good Shepherd offers a free community dinner to all. The Shepherd’s Bowl ministry seeks to give a nutritious meal to the people of Good Shepherd and the wider community. If you are able, this is a great time to get to know others in our community and congregation and have a free meal!
Friday Morning Men’s Bible Study Each Friday morning, a group of men gather at Good Shepherd at 6:30am to share breakfast, bible study and prayer time together. Men of any age are welcome to attend. If you are interested in learning more about this study, please email Pastor Matt or contact the church office.
Women’s Bible Study The Women’s Bible Study meets every Saturday morning from 10 to 11AM. Women of various ages join together to study the bible, moving book by book, and verse by verse. All women are extended a warm invitation to attend. The ladies are currently studying the book of Psalms. The Psalms express so much from praise, forgiveness and gratitude for God’s grace and so much more. Join us while we study this ancient collection of songs and poems that has been woven into our worship services for centuries. Please contact Christine Osgood for more information.
Good Shepherd Member Food Pantry With the rising cost of food these days, it gets harder and harder for some parents to feed their children, so food pantries like ours can help. However, if our pantry is depleted of good healthy food, that is also a problem. We need all of you who can afford to purchase an item or two to help us. We don’t want to turn anyone away when they are hungry, so please give generously.
Items needed: Peanut butter, spaghetti and spaghetti sauce, canned meats (ham, beef, turkey, tuna), one box meals, nutritious child friendly foods, cereals (hot or cold), brown or white rice (1 lb bags only). cooking oils, macaroni, noodles, and soups, and anything else you’d like to bring. Paper plates and plastic cutlery, and cleaning and hygiene products are always welcome.
*Please do not donate flour or sugar as it encourages mice.
Good Shepherd Youth Group Youth Group meets on Sunday night from 6:00 – 7:30pm at Good Shepherd. All youth between the ages of 12-18 are welcome to join as the youth group continues to study the book of Romans. We had a sermon at the 8am by our new Pastoral Assistant, Jonathan Groves called Compelled By Compassion, and a different sermon at the 10:30 service by our other Pastoral Assistant, Tyler Van Fossen called The Lord of The Harvest. Preventing Grace Podcast Did you know that Matt and Anne have a podcast? They talk about everything from church polity to rustic breads. This Sunday’s Sermon will be based on John 13:21-30.
After saying these things, Jesus was troubled in his spirit, and testified, “Truly, truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me.” The disciples looked at one another, uncertain of whom he spoke. One of his disciples, whom Jesus loved, was reclining at table at Jesus’ side, so Simon Peter motioned to him to ask Jesus of whom he was speaking. So that disciple, leaning back against Jesus, said to him, “Lord, who is it?” Jesus answered, “It is he to whom I will give this morsel of bread when I have dipped it.” So when he had dipped the morsel, he gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot. Then after he had taken the morsel, Satan entered into him. Jesus said to him, “What you are going to do, do quickly.” Now no one at the table knew why he said this to him. Some thought that, because Judas had the moneybag, Jesus was telling him, “Buy what we need for the feast,” or that he should give something to the poor. So, after receiving the morsel of bread, he immediately went out. And it was night.
This Sunday’s Lections are Exodus 24:12-18, psalm 99, and Philippians 3:7-14.
