What’s Happening at Good Shepherd This Week
Mark Your Calendars! As many of you know, our seminarians, Jerry Shriver, and Ifeoluwa Ojetayo are both being ordained this year. Jerry will be being ordained as a priest, and Ife as a deacon.
Typically seminarians are ordained at the annual synod, but this year synod was cancelled. Instead, Bishop Dobbs will come to Good Shepherd for his semi-annual visit on July 19th. That Friday, July 17th, we are excited to announce that Good Shepherd will be hosting the ceremony to ordain Jerry, Ife, and another seminarian Marc Steele. Please keep an eye out for more information as it becomes available. We are excited for this visit, and for the coming changes in the Shriver and Ojetayo families.
Mission Groups All Mission Groups are on hiatus for the summer, and will resume in the fall.
Women’s Bible Study The women’s bible study is still paused for the time being. Please see Christine Osgood for more information.
Youth Group will be having Informal Gatherings throughout the month but there will not be any Sunday meetings.
Sunday Morning Worship and Christian Ed
Both the 8am Service and the 10:30 service will be held in person at Good Shepherd each Sunday. Christian Education will still be live-streamed for this week, and will not be open to the public, however there will be a tent and chairs outside so that the class can be viewed on the property. The 8am Worship service will not be live-streamed, but the 10:30 service will be available to experience in three different ways. Please take a moment to read this note from Matt to the church explaining the options for worship.
Christian Education will begin at 9:15 and will be available at this link. This week we’ll continue our discussion of Clement’s epistle to the Corinthians written in 95Ad. You can read the entire epistle on our website here. If you missed last Sunday’s class on Clement, you can watch it all here. This was the final class on Clement, this Sunday will be a Q&A class, so please send any questions you may have to Matt @ lambeth98@gmail.com.
The live-stream of the 10:30 service will be posted on Facebook each week. The stream will begin on Sunday starting at 10:20am but the service will not start until 10:30am. You should be able to access it at this link. If you don’t have a Facebook account, you will still be able to view all of the services, classes and studies.
You can download the bulletin, including the scripture readings if you click on this link. In the bulletin, you’ll notice that there are links in the offertory section to take you out to two different means of giving electronically. If you would like to send your tithe electronically, these are the best ways to do so. You can still send your tithe in by traditional mail as well. You will also notice that the front cover picture, as well as the congregational directions are now in color! This is a bright spot of enjoying a fully digital bulletin. The red is a close match to the traditional color of those directions in the BCP.
Ongoing Ministries
Tuesday Morning Bible Study This bible study meets every Tuesday morning at 9:05am to walk through different books of the bible, verse by verse. Taught by Matt Kennedy in the main room of the parish hall. This class can be viewed online each week by livestream. For more information, please contact the church office.
Thursday Evening Beginner’s Bible Study The Thursday evening bible study is a beginner’s bible study that normally takes place in the green youth classroom at 6pm each week following the Shepherd’s Bowl Community dinner, however it is currently being taught online. This is a great place to connect with others and learn more about what God has to say to us through his word.
Shepherd’s Bowl Community Dinner Each Thursday evening, Good Shepherd offers a free community dinner to all. The Shepherd’s Bowl ministry seeks to give a nutritious meal to the people of Good Shepherd and the wider community. If you are able, this is a great time to get to know others in our community and congregation and have a free meal! Shepherd’s Bowl is currently being served as a take away meal due to the health and safety concerns surrounding the covid epidemic.
Friday Morning Men’s Bible Study Each Friday morning, a group of men gather at 6:30am to share bible study and prayer time together. Men of any age are welcome to attend. This study is currently meeting online and in person. If you are interested in learning more about this study, please email Pastor Matt, Jonathan Groves, or contact the church office.
Women’s Bible Study The Women’s Bible Study meets every Saturday morning from 10 to 11AM. Women of various ages join together to study the bible, moving book by book, and verse by verse. All women are extended a warm invitation to attend. The ladies are currently studying the book of Psalms. The Psalms express so much from praise, forgiveness and gratitude for God’s grace and so much more. Join us while we study this ancient collection of songs and poems that has been woven into our worship services for centuries. Please contact Christine Osgood for more information.
The women’s bible study is currently paused. Please see Christine Osgood for more information.
Good Shepherd Member Food Pantry The Good Shepherd Member Food Pantry has food available. Please contact a member of the staff or the church office if you need access to the pantry.
Good Shepherd Youth Group Youth Group meets on Sunday night from 6:00 – 7:30pm at Good Shepherd.
