What’s Happening at Good Shepherd This Week
This Sunday Bishop Bena will be coming in to fill as supply for the Sunday services. If you haven’t had a chance to meet bishop Dave, please do make some time to stop and say hello this week.
We are so thankful to have Bishop Bena coming in to preach and celebrate with us!
Employment Opportunity Good Shepherd is looking to hire a custodian in a part time capacity. This is a 10-12 hour time commitment each week. If you or anyone you know might be interested in this position, please reach out to Micah.
Did you Hear? Mary Schuster and Nick Restino got married yesterday! Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Restino, and thanks to all who helped to make their day so special.
Potluck Next Sunday is the first of the month, which means it’s time for another potluck! This month’s theme will be Asian Foods. Please consider bringing your favorite Indian, Thai, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean dishes to share, but come and enjoy lunch even if you don’t!
Potlucks are a great way to introduce friends and family to the community of Good Shepherd, so please do invite them to join us!
Church Picnic This year’s church picnic is scheduled for Sunday, September 11. The last church picnic was held in 2019, and we’d really love to make the first one since then special.
We hope to put together a committee to help plan and execute the picnic. If you are interested in being part of that process, please contact Micah or Steph.
New Book Study Are you struggling with a relationship that has gone sideways? Is there someone you don’t know how to get along with? Do you have a family member who refuses to get help and healing? Are you anxious or unsure about how to relate to someone who seems to have it in for you, either in your family or the church?
Anne and Stephanie are going to be starting a book study on Edwin Friedman’s Generation to Generation. We are hoping for our first study to be on August 13, probably late afternoon, and probably on zoom, though we are open to feedback on the venue and time. We plan to go chapter by chapter through the book, engaging with the material. In Generation to Generation Friedman offers a series of helpful tools for working on difficult family and church situations. We won’t be doing psychology or counseling, so much as thinking through the web of relationships that constitute the body of Christ. If you’d like to join us, please see Anne or Stephanie. We’d love for you to join us!
More information to come as we get closer to the date!
Sunday Worship and Holy Eucharist Both the 8am and the 10:30 services are meeting in person.
The 8am service If you are high risk, or at all nervous to be in social gatherings, this service is designed for you. All those who attend are asked remain socially distanced throughout the service. The 8am service is not currently being live-streamed.
The 10:30am service You can download a PDF copy of the service bulletin here. One of the joys of having a fully digital bulletin is that we are free to use color! You’ll find that some of the artwork and many of the directions are in full color.
You’ll also notice that there are links in the offertory section to take you out to two different means of giving electronically. You can give online through Breeze or you can text a donation through Breeze at 607-882-6551. Good Shepherd also has a PayPal account. If you choose to give via PayPal you can avoid fees by paying directly from your bank. Be sure to uncheck the box that says, “paying for goods and services” at the bottom or PayPal will charge Good Shepherd a fee. As always, thank you for your great generosity and kind support.
The lectionary readings for this week are: Ecclesiastes 1:12-2:11, Psalm 49:1-12, Colossians 3:5-17, and Luke 12:13-21.
Shepherd’s Bowl Community Dinner A Community Dinner is served every Thursday evening at 5:30pm in the parish hall, a fresh tasty meal served by cheerful volunteers. This is a welcoming, friendly atmosphere for church and community members to come and enjoy, regardless of income. Terry Ray leads a beginners Bible study at 6:00 and anyone is welcome to attend. Please find our page on Facebook, Shepherd’s Bowl Free Community Meal, and follow, like and share posts, and invite friends. It all helps! As we try to regrow our attendance, we especially invite church members to come and eat and help welcome visitors. We are also in need of volunteers. If you’d like to join a team, can be available as a sub, or are even interested in being a cook, contact Martha Rice or Mary Schuster.
