What’s Happening at Good Shepherd
On the Road Stephanie, the lady that writes these awesome updates each week and hangs out in the church office, will be on vacation from May 23rd to June 12th. Kit Donovan has given the incredible gift of filling in, but in effect, the Good Shepherd office will be closed during that time. There will be people checking the email and phone messages frequently, so do feel free to contact the office if you have a question or need. If you have an emergency, please call Matt (607) 621-9944 or Tyler (607) 341-6242.

Good Shepherd Food Pantry Summer is upon us and with children out of school, school meals stop. Parents then must find another way to feed their kids. Food pantries like ours help those who are strapped for money by providing good food for free. Those of us who can give are a blessing to those who can’t, so when shopping, please remember our pantry if you’re able. You never know who in our congregation will benefit from your generosity.
Items needed: Canned meats and tuna, canned soups and stews, instant potatoes, canned fruits and fruit juices, rice (1 lb packages preferred), fruit snacks, pudding and jello cups, kids cereals, powdered milk packets, spaghetti-o’s or ravioli and anything else you’d like to bring.
Health and Wellness Our bodies are “the tents” that the Lord has given us to house our souls. Begin to take care of the body which God Has given you. Check your blood pressure, blood sugar, and weight every Sunday in the Parish Hall 9-10AM. Please see Dolly Shaller or Carmen Swoffer-Penna for more details.
Last Week
Last Week’s Sermon ‘Comfort for Jerusalem‘ was based on John 1:18-27 and can be listened to or downloaded here.
Last Week in Christian Ed During the Interim between series we like to have a couple of Question and Answer sessions. Last week we covered 1. “I really struggle with despair and depression. I know I shouldn’t and I feel like there must be something wrong with me since I see so many others who seem happy. Why aren’t I less anxious and more joyful, it makes me feel like I am not a Christian?” and 2. What is dispensationalism and how does it compare to what Anglicans believe? You can listen to the session here.
Tuesday Morning Bible Study We moved into Leviticus 4 and discussed the sin offering. The burnt offering was propitiatory, satisfying God’s just wrath against sin. The sin offering was expiatory, a cleansing sacrifice, taking away the “uncleanness”, the corruption, that results from sin. Jesus’ one sacrifice was both propitiatory and expiatory. By drinking the cup of God the Father’s wrath, the Son took our judgment onto himself, enduring the eternal penalty due to sinners. And by his shed blood, he cleanses our hearts and minds from the stain of sin. If you missed it, you can watch the study in the window below.

This Week
This week in Christian Ed We will be finishing up our Q & A series! If you have any questions that you’d like me to address, please send them in via email or submit them in person.
This Sunday’s Sermon will be based on John 1:27-34.
John answered them, “I baptize with water, but among you stands one you do not know, even he who comes after me, the strap of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie.” These things took place in Bethany across the Jordan, where John was baptizing.
The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! This is he of whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who ranks before me, because he was before me.’ I myself did not know him, but for this purpose I came baptizing with water, that he might be revealed to Israel.” And John bore witness: “I saw the Spirit descend from heaven like a dove, and it remained on him. I myself did not know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.”
