What’s Happening at Good Shepherd
This Sunday’s Worship Service Many of you will have noticed that there was a different style of worship service last Sunday. This style of service is called Morning Prayer, and has been practiced in the Anglican church for hundreds of years. This Sunday, we will be having a Choral Morning Prayer Service. This service is different in that the majority of the service is sung, not spoken. If you didn’t get a chance to attend the Choral Evensong Service at the 2018 synod this year, this service is very similar and quite beautiful. Please come this Sunday to worship and enjoy this special service!
Donations for Kuinde Anna and Sarah D. are leaving this Sunday to meet Anne Kennedy in Nairobi, Kenya to visit the preschool in the Kuinde slum that Good Shepherd has supported for many years. This preschool is experiencing particularly difficult times and they are headed there to learn how Good Shepherd can best support the children, the school, and the people involved in running it. As a concrete expression of love for these children, they are taking a good number of school supplies, learning tools, and even learning toys for the six youngest children under 3 years old. Anna can accept your donations directly today if you would like to support these immediate efforts and give toward a small party for the children while they are there. Any funds donated over the immediate cost of supplies will help the children have a meal each day and with any other costs critical to the running of the school. Get ready for more updates this fall!
Ways to be in prayer for Anna, Anne, and Sarah
For our meetings with potential supporters.
That the children feel the love of our church through us.
That the teachers feel supported and encouraged.
That we learn what God has for us, are able to help where needed or wanted, and are brought back home safely.
Potluck Next Sunday is July 1st, which means that it’s time for another Good Shepherd Potluck! The theme this month will be Summer Picnic Foods. If you are able, please bring a dish of your favorite summer picnic food to share, and stay to have lunch even if you don’t bring anything. All are welcome. Hot Dogs and all of the fixin’s will be provided! Please consider inviting your family and friends to enjoy lunch with us.
Mobile Food Pantry The next Broome County Mobile Food Pantry food distribution will be Wednesday, June 27th, from 10-11am. All are welcome, please bring containers to take away any goods that you receive.
New Minister’s Calendar There is a new minister’s calendar available on the ushers tables at the entrances to the sanctuary. If you are on a ministry team, please stop by and grab one at your convenience.
Health Fair and Ice Cream Social Many thanks to all who made this year’s Health Fair and Ice Cream Social a real blessing to the community! So many expressed their appreciation for a church that would reach out and give in this way. Folks from other churches were grateful to participate in the event. We have no idea how such expressions of our love in Christ’s name may make a difference in days or even years to come! But may we always continue to serve in His name!
CHE Update Another YARD SALE for CHE on August 3rd and 4th! Please give us those things that you don’t want, and we will convert them into, God willing, October, November + December support for CHE Area Leaders Juanita and Izamar. Thank you, thank you for your earlier donations. They helped to provide support from June through September. The rural area where they live is peaceful, but they are affected by rising (quadrupling for some goods), food prices and scarcity of some items. Please pray for their ministry, especially for the group of 20 youth that Izamar helps lead. Thank you.

Good Shepherd Food Pantry To everyone who has donated to our member food pantry, a big bear hug from your pantry custodian, CJ Johnson is being sent your way! You may not realize just how important you are, but without your generosity families who are low income, those with many children, or who are financially strapped might go hungry if not for our pantry and your kindness, and folks like you keeping it stocked! Therefore, before your next shopping trip, prayerfully consider picking up something healthy for the pantry.
Last Week
Last Week’s Sermon Preached by Good Shepherd’s Pastoral Assistant, Tyler Van Fossen, was based on John 1:35-42, and was called ‘Jesus Calls the First Disciples’. It can be listened to or downloaded here.
This Week
This Sunday’s Sermon will be based on John 1:43-51.
The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, “Follow me.” Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found him of whom Moses in the Law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.” Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no deceit!” Nathanael said to him, “How do you know me?” Jesus answered him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.” Nathanael answered him, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!” Jesus answered him, “Because I said to you, ‘I saw you under the fig tree,’ do you believe? You will see greater things than these.” And he said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”
