Kennedy Vacation The Kennedy family are taking their annual vacation. They will return to work at the beginning of August. We hope to provide them with as much quiet and rest as possible during this month, so please refrain from contacting them unless it is an absolute emergency (death, divorce, or arrest).
Jon, Micah, and Steph will all be working their normal schedules, and will be available to answer questions, carry out administrative tasks, and care for the congregation spiritually. Thank you so much for your kindness and consideration.
Potluck There will not be a potluck in July due to the holiday weekend.
Our next potluck will be on August 6, when we will have our annual Chili and Cornbread Cookoff!
Take them a Meal As many of you know, Camille Lane had surgery recently. As is the custom at Good Shepherd, we would like to help the family out by providing meals to take some of the burden off of Bill and the kids. If you would like to help, you can follow this link to sign up. Please keep the Lane family, and especially Camille in your prayers as she heals.
Church Picnic Good Shepherd’s annual Church Picnic will return to Cole Park for the first time since 2018! The big change to note is that the picnic will be on a Saturday this year, which we hope will make it easier to both attend and facilitate. Please mark your calendars for September 9, and keep an eye out for more information in the coming months!
Good Shepherd Kid’s Music Camp On August 15, 16, and 17, from 5:30-7:30pm, Good Shepherd will be hosting a kid’s music camp. This will be a time of learning more about music, and how it is utilized to worship God. A light snack and refreshment will be provided at the end of each day. If you have a child age 6 and up that you would like to attend, please contact the Good Shepherd Music Director, Michael Berman.
There will be an adult music workshop on August 19th. Please keep an eye here for more info in the upcoming weeks.
Good Shepherd Food Pantry Needs Please feel free to pick up a few items for the pantry when doing your household shopping if you have the ability.
The Food Pantry’s most pressing needs currently are:
- Vienna Sausages
- Canned Chicken
- Tuna
Thank you to all the folks who have been so generous with their donations! The variety, quality & consistency of what the food pantry is offering to those in our parish & outreach who need help is much improved!
Confirmation Classes Matt will be hosting a series of confirmation classes by Zoom in September. These classes are for people who have been baptized as young children or in other traditions but have not made a profession of faith in the Anglican tradition for themselves. Confirmation is one of the sacraments, and is a way for the Christian to step forward into a fuller membership within the church body. If you would like access to this class, please email the office or let Stephanie know.

Preventing Grace Did you know that Matt and Anne have a podcast? In this week’s episode, ‘Translating the Word “Homosexuality” in the New Testament’, Matt and Anne discuss the argument that the word “homosexual” was never in English Bible translations until the recent past and that, therefore, the New Testament does not even mention homosexuality as we know it. They discuss the Greek words “arsenokoites” and “malakos” and why the phrase “men who practice homosexuality” is a good translation of those two words in 1 Corinthians 6:9. They briefly touch on the egalitarian argument that the word “submit” isn’t really in Ephesians 5:22. They discuss the importance of keeping your hard copy bibles since pro-lgbt translations may flood the market online and on paper in the future. Finally, they discuss the goodness of God’s civil law and why it is good for modern nations to enact them. The discussion of the word homosexual begins at around the 10 minute mark.
The Cranmer Fellows Podcast (CFP) explores pastoral ministry and theology from an Anglican perspective. CFP is a project that Jon and Matt have undertaken in order to 1) encapsulate the pastoral training Matt has given men over the years into an accessible resource and 2) serve as a door to, we pray, a future program to train more people for ministry. Though geared toward the pastor, ministry leader, and pastor-in-training, what Jon and Matt talk about is applicable to all Christians! The Pod is on holiday for June but you can subscribe to CFP on all major platforms. Here is a link where you can listen! https://anchor.fm/
Ongoing Ministries
Intercessor Ministry Good Shepherd has resumed offering Prayer on the side altar during Communion. On any given Sunday, you may notice a person standing at the side altar rail as you come forward to receive the bread and wine. That person is part of the Prayer Ministry, people trained to pray for any anxieties or troubles you may have. If you would like prayer for any reason, please feel free to stop as you pass.
Audio-Video Team Are you a technologically capable person who would like to serve the church with your gifts? Good Shepherd is adding a volunteer team to run sound and the livestream for the 10:30 Sunday service. If this is a ministry that interests you, please reach out to Micah.
