Good Shepherd Weekly Update, May 6, 2023

May 6, 2023Stephanie WarnerAudio

Potluck There will be a potluck this Sunday after the 10:30 service.  The theme will be International Foods.

Please bring your favorite international dish to share but stay for lunch and fellowship even if you don’t.

Welcome!  We are happy to announce that Ben and Ronnie welcomed baby Thaddeus on March 25th.

It is the custom at Good Shepherd to help the new family adjust to life with a baby by bringing meals.  If you would like to sign up to take them a meal, you can do so here: https://takethemameal.com/IKPE1580.

Congratulations Ben and Ronnie! We are so excited to meet baby Thaddeus and are praying for you all.

Women’s Bible Study Women’s Bible study has resumed meeting.

Funeral The funeral service for April Skipp will be held on May 13th at 11:00am.

Are you going to Synod? May 21st is the day following Jon’s ordination as a priest at synod. This will be a very busy weekend for Good Shepherd. We’ll be having our first Catechesis of the Good Shepherd training retreat, and a guest speaker at both of the services. We’ll also have a visit from Darling Lopez, one of our contacts at CHE, one of the missionary organizations that Good Shepherd supports. With everything going on that weekend, we’ll most likely need some hands to help with meals. If you are available, and would be willing to help serve over that weekend, please contact Anna or Anne.

Good Shepherd Food Pantry Needs Please feel free to pick up a few items for the pantry when doing your household shopping if you have the ability.

We are currently running low on:

  • spaghetti sauce & canned meals like ravioli
  • Spam/luncheon meat
  • canned fish & meats
  • Vienna Sausages

Thanks to everyone for your continued generosity!

May 21 Concert with Brio Vocal Ensemble and Friends Join Brio Vocal Ensemble and Friends for an evening of music featuring Beethoven’s Scottish Songs, plus sacred classics and spirituals, as well as instrumental works by our guest musicians on violin, viola, cello, clarinet and piano. The concert takes place at 7 p.m. at Endwell United Methodist Church, 3301 Watson Boulevard, Endwell. A free will offering will be taken.

Catching Up…

Last Sunday’s Sermon Last Sunday, Matt preached on John 10:1-10.  You can listen or watch ‘I Am the Door of the Sheep’ here. You can find previous sermons here.

Christian Education Last Sunday we continued our look at the crucifixion, death, and resurrection of Christ.

You can watch that class here.

You can find previous classes here.

Tuesday Morning Bible Study This Tuesday morning we continued our study of Jesus’ miracles, picking up where we left off with Healing a woman with an 18 year infirmity (Luke 13:10-13).

You can watch that class here.

Preventing Grace Did you know that Matt and Anne have a podcast?  In this week episode, ‘Safaris, Feminism, and Gender Roles’, Anne and Matt discuss their safari in the Amboseli Reserve in Kenya, modern feminism as a rebellion against biology, and how gender roles changed after the Industrial Revolution.

Miss an episode?  You can find many previous recordings here.

You can find their podcast available on most platforms.

The Cranmer Fellows Podcast (CFP) explores pastoral ministry and theology from an Anglican perspective. CFP is a project that Jon and Matt have undertaken in order to 1) encapsulate the pastoral training Matt has given men over the years into an accessible resource and 2) serve as a door to, we pray, a future program to train more people for ministry. Though geared toward the pastor, ministry leader, and pastor-in-training, what Jon and Matt talk about is applicable to all Christians!

In this week’s episode, ‘The Future of Anglicanism‘, Matt walks us through the history of GAFCON and the road leading up to the statement that came out of the most recent gathering: The Kigali Commitment.”

You can subscribe to CFP on all major platforms. Here is a link where you can listen! https://anchor.fm/thecranmerfellowspodcast .

Ongoing Ministries

Intercessor Ministry Good Shepherd has resumed offering Prayer on the side altar during Communion. On any given Sunday, you may notice a person standing at the side altar rail as you come forward to receive the bread and wine.  That person is part of the Prayer Ministry, people trained to pray for any anxieties or troubles you may have.  If you would like prayer for any reason, please feel free to stop as you pass.

Audio-Video Team Are you a technologically capable person who would like to serve the church with your gifts?  Good Shepherd is adding a volunteer team to run sound and the livestream for the 10:30 Sunday service. If this is a ministry that interests you, please reach out to Micah.

Morning Prayer This group meets online by Zoom at 7am Monday through Friday.  The liturgy and readings are available each day at www.dailyoffice2019.com.

Join the parish email list and look for a weekly email invitation in your inbox.

Tuesday Morning Bible Study meets at 9:05am to walk through different books of the bible, verse by verse.  Taught by a member of the pastoral staff in the main room of the parish hall.  This class can be viewed in person or online each week by livestream.

This class is currently working on a study focusing on the miracles of Christ.

Home Groups Home Groups exist to glorify God and build up the church through weekly gatherings where members of Good Shepherd and non-members alike may come to grow in fellowship and discipleship around God’s word.

Shepherd’s Bowl Community Dinner Good Shepherd offers a free nutritious meal to the people of Good Shepherd and the wider community on Thursday evenings from 5:30-6:30. If you are able, this is a great time to get to know others and enjoy a free and delicious meal.
