What’s Happening at Good Shepherd This Week
Christmas Pageant It’s November already, and that means it’s time to start thinking about the Christmas Pageant. Anne would like to meet with all interested children and adults directly after church on November 14th in the sanctuary. She’ll discuss the practice schedule, parts, music, and all the behind the scenes help she needs, as well as a variety of other details. If, for some reason, you can’t be there, let her know. She is very grateful in advance.
Advent Open House: The Kennedy’s are going to throw their home open for an Advent Party on November 28 from 2:30-5:30 (so the youth group has time to get back to church). Pop in for Advent-y food—the perfect antidote to all the Christmas music you’re already having to listen to. Everyone is welcome to both come and bring friends (even if you love celebrating Christmas at the wrong time of year)! Send an RSVP text to 607-766-8143 if you can, but come anyway if you forget. Look forward to seeing you there!
Catechesis Training Anne is going to be traveling up to Syracuse on November 13 to do an introduction and light training for Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, the Sunday School program we use. If you are interested at all in finding out more about what the program is and why we love it, she would love for you to join her. Catch her after church or send her a text.
Women’s Bible Study is back at a new time. We are currently meeting at 4:30 pm in the Parish Hall. Anne Kennedy is leading and starting with 1 Peter. Children are welcome—as in, we hope to have some childcare available. If you’d like to come a little bit early to hang out for Friday Play (all the children play while their mother’s talk to each other), let Anne know
Mission Groups have resumed meeting regularly. There are currently three local mission groups, and one online group meeting by Zoom. Please see the paper update for more information on times and locations.
Choir Practice The choir has reconvened!
Please contact Michael Berman, the Good Shepherd Music Director if you’re interested in joining. The choir meets for rehearsal every Wednesday evening from 6(5:30 for children)-7:00pm.
Large Print Bulletins are available upon request for both services. If you need a large print bulletin, please let the usher at the back of the sanctuary know, and they will get one for you.
Zoom Morning Prayer This service meets online by zoom at 7am Monday through Friday. The liturgy and readings are available each day at www.dailyoffice2019.com. Join the parish email list and look for a daily email invitation in your inbox.
Both the 8am and the 10:30 services are meeting in person.
The 8am service If you are high risk, or at all nervous to be in social gatherings, this service is designed for you. All those who attend are asked to wear masks and remain socially distanced throughout the service. The 8am service is not currently being live-streamed.
The 10:30am service is currently observing ‘restaurant-style’ masking guidelines which means that while seated, masks are optional. We ask that those who are unvaccinated wear masks when entering, leaving, or walking from one place to another (unless you are unable due to health reasons) and practice social distancing of at least six feet between your family and the next grouping. We are utilizing the honor system for masking and will not ask for proof of vaccination.
You can download the bulletin, including the scripture readings here. One of the joys of having a fully digital bulletin is that we are free to use color! You’ll find that some of the artwork and many of the directions are in full color. You’ll also notice that there are links in the offertory section to take you out to two different means of giving electronically. You can give online through Breeze or you can text a donation through Breeze at 607-882-6551. Good Shepherd also has a PayPal account. If you choose to give via PayPal you can avoid fees by paying directly from your bank. Be sure to uncheck the box that says, “paying for goods and services” at the bottom or PayPal will charge Good Shepherd a fee. As always, thank you for your great generosity and kind support.
The lectionary readings for this week are: Revelation 7:9-17, Psalm 149, Philippians 1:27-30, Matthew 5:1-12.
The 10:30 service is also available via livestream. You can access the stream at this link. The stream begins every Sunday at 10:20am but the service does not start until 10:30am. If you do not have a Facebook account, you will still be able to view all of the services, classes, and studies.
Christian Education begins at 9:15am and will continue to be live-streamed, however the class is open to the public with the same guidelines as the 10:30 service. It will be will be available at this link.

Christian Education If you missed Christian Ed last Sunday, Matt started a new series about Evangelism. Jon taught the class while Matt and Anne were away. You can watch the class here, and previous classes at this link.
Preventing Grace Podcast Did you know that Matt and Anne have a podcast? In this week’s episode, ‘Retreat Perpetrators’, they discuss the retreats of the past week, one they attended and another they perpetrated, and Matt explains why extroverts should never be allowed to plan retreats. They also talk Reformation feasting, whether Protestants don’t talk about Communion enough, leaving adultish children and their young siblings at home alone for a week, and how they’ve been recalcitrant about podcasting lately.
Miss an episode? You can catch up on all of the older podcasts here.
Tuesday Morning Bible Study This Tuesday we pick up our study of the minor prophets with the book of Micah, in Chapter 4. You can find that study here.
