What’s Happening at Good Shepherd
Lunch with a Missionary will be meeting today in the green room after the 10:30 service. Lunch will be provided. Anne Thompson will catch everyone up on the activities of Community Health Evangelism, Nicaragua. Looking forward to seeing you there.
Mobile Food Pantry The next Broome County Mobile Food Pantry food distribution will be Wednesday, October 24th, from 10-11am. All are welcome, please bring containers to take away any goods that you receive.
Shepherd’s Bowl is a free community meal that Good Shepherd hosts every Thursday evening from 5:30-6:30. We feed and engage with between 20 and 60 people every week and, therefore, this is one of the primary ways that Good Shepherd is able to minister to and reach this neighborhood and city. As we continue to build up this ministry, we are in need of cooks, servers, people to set up at the beginning of the meal, clean up at the end, and sit and eat with the people who come. If you are interested and would like to find out more, please leave your phone number or email with Stephanie by calling 607-262-9944 or sending an email to gs.binghamton@gmail.com. She will pass it along to Anne Kennedy. Thank you!
Coffee Hour Update Do you live a good distance from Good Shepherd, but would like to be involved in a ministry at church? Do you have some time to serve, but don’t want to be locked in to serving on a rotational schedule? If so, coffee hour may be a perfect fit for you. Please contact Steph if you are interested in knowing how you can join the hospitality ministry!
Trunk and Treat With Fall comes Halloween and this year we hope to continue our tradition of opening up the church and the trunks of our cars, preferably stuffed with candy, to cold and excited children and their families. If you could help with this one-time event—organizing and/or attending—please see Anne or leave your number or email with Stephanie.
Christian Education: Last Sunday we continued our new series “Systematic Theology” by wrapping up the first part of Systematic Theology with a discussion of the canon of scripture. We tackled questions like: How do we know the books of the bible are truly inspired? Why do Protestants have shorter Old Testaments than Roman Catholics? Isn’t the bible full of contradictions? Why are there so many translations of the bible? If God inspired the Bible to communicate with his human creatures, why are there so many different interpretations of scripture? Is God a bad communicator?
Class begins at 9:15am. Hope to see you there.

Good Shepherd Food Pantry I recently read a poem entitled “There is Always Room for Kindness” by Linda C. Grazulis that contained characteristics that we should all try to embody. They were kindness, opening our lives and hearts to others, and generosity. When we open our pocketbooks and buy something at the grocery store to donate to the member food pantry, we are being kind and generous to those in our community with less than us. Sharing with others who can’t afford to make ends meet for themselves is one way that we can utilize these traits. If you are able, please consider donating to the member food pantry the next time you’re out shopping.
Needs: Peanut butter, canned ham and chicken, condiments like mustard and ketchup, coffee, tea and cocoa, powdered milk, juice and drink mixes, one box meals, pasta sauce, dry goods (napkins, tissues, toilet tissue, paper towels, dish detergent, soap and other personal hygiene products).
Please do not donate flour or sugar as it encourages pests.

Tuesday Morning Bible Study This Tuesday morning’s class was based on Leviticus 12-13.
We are currently studying the exciting book of Leviticus and the especially thrilling chapters of 12-13, in which we learn about post-partum uncleanness for mothers and leprous skin diseases.

This Week
This Sunday’s Sermon will be based on John 5:16-24.
And this was why the Jews were persecuting Jesus, because he was doing these things on the Sabbath. But Jesus answered them, “My Father is working until now, and I am working.”
This was why the Jews were seeking all the more to kill him, because not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God.
So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise. For the Father loves the Son and shows him all that he himself is doing. And greater works than these will he show him, so that you may marvel. For as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whom he will. For the Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son, that all may honor the Son, just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him. Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.
