What’s Happening at Good Shepherd
Scheduling Reminder If you need to make an appointment with Pastor Matt, please be sure to contact Stephanie directly at gs.binghamton@gmail.com.
Often when people come to speak with Matt after the service on Sunday, he’s already been working for over nine hours, and doesn’t always remember to put it into the calendar. This can cause double bookings, or forgotten appointments. Please keep in mind that the office is closed on Mondays and Fridays, but you can always leave a message. Thank you so much for your understanding.
Trunk N Treat Anglican Church of the Good Shepherd (360 Conklin Avenue) will again host Trunk ‘N Treat from 4 to 7PM on October 31st. There will be hot chocolate, donuts, cider, games, antique cars, a Binghamton Fire Engine, and trunks of treats. BJ will share the gospel as she performs with comedy, face-painting, and lots of balloons! Please help by contributing small donuts/donut holes/ treats (preferably some healthy ones) to distribute at this fun family-friendly event which helps us to reach out to so many who may never otherwise enter the doors. Also pray for God’s blessing on the children and families who come!

Operation Christmas Child has now started!
Since 1993, Samaritan’s Purse has delivered shoebox gifts to more than 113 million children around the world. Every shoebox offers an opportunity to reach a child with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
. Pick up a shoebox to fill. (Instructions are included inside each shoebox.)
. Bring your filled shoebox back to Good Shepherd NO LATER THAN SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 13TH.
. Remember to PRAY that God will touch the heart of every child who receives a shoebox gift, and that many children and families will come to faith in Jesus Christ.
Suffering Church Action Week This week is Suffering Church Action Week to lead up to the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church on November 6th. For more information as to how we can each individually engage in supporting brothers and sisters suffering for the sake of the gospel, please take some time to read the Barnabas Aid materials found in your bulletin.

And Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink”… There are bottles of water in the church refrigerator which are available to offer to anyone who is in the vicinity of the church. These are not for members of COGS, but are for those outside our walls. Please use this gesture to show others that we care.
Mission Groups Mission groups have returned to their regular meeting times. Last Week
Last Week’s Sermon: was the introduction to the book of Hebrews. You can listen to or download it here.
Mission Group Discussion Questions
Introduction to Hebrews
Main Ideas:
- Hebrews clearly identifies Christ and the gospel as superior to, and exclusive of, Jewish tradition
- The gospel makes no compromises
Take several minutes to silently skim through the book of Hebrews, taking mental note of section headings and familiar verses as you do.
1) What are some of the themes and main ideas of Hebrews that you already know about or that are indicated by the section headings?
- Which of these themes and main ideas are you most interested in studying and discussing?
- Which names or words show up multiple times as part of section headings?
- Why are these things such a focus for the writer of Hebrews?
2) Who are the candidates for author of Hebrews?
- Why are these most likely?
- What can we be sure of about the author, even if we don’t know exactly who he is?
3) Who is the original audience of Hebrews?
- What problems were these Jews facing concerning being a Christian in a Jewish culture?
- Can you see any parallels between that culture and ours?
- What does the speaker/author of Hebrews say concerning these compromises?
Tuesday Morning Bible Study was based on Ecclesiastes 4.
In popular films the good-guys tend always to win, the lost are found, the unjustly imprisoned are freed, the oppressed are liberated. We have, in our souls, a desire and longing for a just and happy ending. Sadly, in a fallen world, justice rarely prevails, the lost sometimes remain unfound, and the oppressed are never liberated. How do we make sense of this in a world governed by a perfectly just and omnipotent God? Ecclesiastes 4 raises this question and more.
Missed a study? You can catch up on the last month of the Tuesday morning Bible studies you might have missed here.
This Week
This Week’s Sermon is based on Hebrews 1:1-4.
Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs. (Hebrews 1:1-4 ESV)
