Weekly Update October 5, 2018
New Members/Inquirers The New Members/Inquirers class will continue this Sunday after the 10:30am service in the green room. This is a great opportunity to learn more about Good Shepherd and Anglicanism. If you are interested, please see Matt before or after the service.
Shepherd’s Bowl is a free community meal that Good Shepherd hosts every Thursday evening from 5:30-6:30. We feed and engage with between 20 and 60 people every week and, therefore, this is one of the primary ways that Good Shepherd is able to minister to and reach this neighborhood and city. As we continue to build up this ministry, we are in need of cooks, servers, people to set up at the beginning of the meal, clean up at the end, and sit and eat with the people who come. If you are interested and would like to find out more, please leave your phone number or email with Stephanie by calling 607-262-9944 or sending an email to gs.binghamton@gmail.com. She will pass it along to Anne Kennedy. Thank you!
Coffee Hour Update Do you live a good distance from Good Shepherd, but would like to be involved in a ministry at church? Do you have some time to serve, but don’t want to be locked in to serving on a rotational schedule? If so, coffee hour may be perfect for you. Please let Steph know if you’re interested in knowing how you can be involved in hospitality.
Trunk and Treat With Fall comes Halloween and this year we hope to continue our tradition of opening up the church and the trunks of our cars, preferably stuffed with candy, to cold and excited children and their families. If you could help with this one-time event—organizing and/or attending—please see Anne or leave your number or email with Stephanie.
Christian Education: Last Sunday we started our new series “Systematic Theology” with a discussion of revelation, in particular the ways that God speaks to us. Class begins at 9:15am. Hope to see you there.
Women’s Bible Study: The Women’s Bible Study meets on Saturday mornings at ten. They are starting the Old Testament book of Micah this week. All women are welcome.
Bread and Wine: Is a monthly supper and book discussion for women. The group is currently reading Money, Possessions and Eternity, by Randy Alcorn. The next meeting is October 13 at 6pm, at the Hull home. Please contact Liz Hull at 607-768-5499 or mizliz74@yahoo.com if you are interested.
Missionary Update
Carrie Moorhead for Intervarsity Christian Fellowship:
Carrie reports about IV’s progress and long-term vision. I’m also excited that InterVarsity is officially on 695 campuses—near our all-time high—which means thousands will be welcomed to campus by an InterVarsity chapter this fall. But God has also been breaking our hearts as an organization for the hundreds of campuses across the US that don’t have any known witnessing community, including dozens and dozens in upstate NY. In response, the Lord has given InterVarsity a bold picture for the next 12 years, our 2030 Calling: Longing for revival, we catalyze movements that call every corner of every campus to follow Jesus. By the year 2030, we hope to see diverse witnessing communities on all 2,500 US campuses that have over 1,000 students. Even more, we’re praying for God to bring revival, along with:
- 71,500 multiplying small groups
- 134,000 new followers of Jesus
- 4,000,000 partners praying
- 12,000,000 reached for the Gospel

Good Shepherd Food Pantry Food, clothing and shelter are some of the essentials of life. What if you only had the money to pay for shelter, what would you do about the other two? There are many places to obtain free or low-cost clothing, but what about food? Where would you turn, who would you ask? By giving to the Good Shepherd member food pantry, you may be helping families that don’t have the ability to provide for themselves and their families a nutritious alternative to soup kitchens or government programs. Needs: pasta sauces, peanut butter, cereal (hot or cold), canned or bottled juice, canned fruit, powdered milk, coffee, tea, creamer, toilet paper, paper towels, tissues, napkins, shampoo, conditioner, soap, deodorant, feminine supplies, mouthwash and toothpaste, and any anything else you’d like to bring. Please do not donate flour or sugar as it encourages pests.
