Church Picnic Last Sunday Good Shepherd hosted a very different church picnic! Although we had plans to grill out and have loads of fun outdoor activities, the Divine Weatherman had other plans!
Many people were in attendance, and we had a wonderful (and hearty) lunch. Martha ran games for the kids, and Rich and Scott slaved away over the stove to cook up loads of hamburgers and hotdogs. We had an excellent set up and clean up crew in place, and it turned out to be a pretty great time, even though it was all held in the parish hall! Thanks to everyone who helped make this a wonderful event, and for everyone who brought food!
Book Study of Generation to Generation
The second meeting of the Generation to Generation book study in which we continued to explore the concepts covered in chapter one of the book, was be held by zoom last Saturday.
We plan to meet every month as we work through the book. If you would like to join us, or if you’d like to watch the recordings, please email the office.
Chili Cookoff! This year’s annual chili cookoff will be held on October 2 directly after the 10:30 service. We’ll have three categories:
- Meat (traditional pork/beef-based chili)
- Vegetarian
- Non-Traditional (white chili, chicken chili, etc.)
If you would like to enter the competition, please make sure your chili is present before the 10:30 service, labeled with your name and the name of your chili.
If you would like to be a judge, please let Steph know.
Home Groups Home Groups begin meeting this week. Please see the above blurb for more information on times and places!
Sunday Worship and Holy Eucharist Both the 8am and the 10:30 services are meeting in person.
The 8am service If you are high risk, or at all nervous to be in social gatherings, this service is designed for you. All those who attend are asked to remain socially distanced throughout the service. The 8am service is not currently being live-streamed.
The 10:30am service You can download a PDF copy of the service bulletin here.
The lectionary readings for this Sunday are: Amos 8:4-12, Psalm 138, 1 Timothy 2:1-15, and Luke 16:1-13.
You’ll also notice that there are links in the offertory section to take you out to two different means of giving electronically. You can give online through Breeze or you can text a donation through Breeze at 607-882-6551. Good Shepherd also has a PayPal account. If you choose to give via PayPal you can avoid fees by paying directly from your bank. As always, thank you for your great generosity and kind support.
Shepherd’s Bowl Community Dinner A Community Dinner is served every Thursday evening at 5:30pm in the parish hall, a fresh tasty meal served by cheerful volunteers. This is a welcoming, friendly atmosphere for church and community members to come and enjoy, regardless of income. Terry Ray leads a beginners Bible study at 6:00 and anyone is welcome to attend. Please find our page on Facebook, Shepherd’s Bowl Free Community Meal, and follow, like and share posts, and invite friends. It all helps! As we try to regrow our attendance, we especially invite church members to come and eat and help welcome visitors. We are also in need of volunteers. If you’d like to join a team, can be available as a sub, or are even interested in being a cook, contact Martha Rice or Mary Schuster.
