What’s Happening at Good Shepherd
An Invitation Sunday, September 22 at 7 p.m: A Musical Evening with Brio! Vocal Ensemble and Friends. Brio! opens their 2019-2020 season with a brief selection of madrigals and sacred music, as well as instrumental music for piano, organ, guitar, recorders and flute performed by guest artists from around the Southern Tier. Light refreshments to follow. St. Andrew’s Anglican Church; 400 West Wendell Street, Endicott, NY.
Good Shepherd Kid’s Music Camp On August 20th, 21st, and 22nd, from 5:30-7:30pm Good Shepherd held a music camp. Fourteen Good Shepherd kids from 6 to 17 years old attended the camp. The youth learned among many things: breathing exercises, basic music education, how to sing in a group setting, vocal control, and many elements of Anglican worship.
We are particularly thankful for the families that participated and all of the adults that helped with set up, snacks, helpers, photography, and clean up.
Our hope is that in the coming months these new skills will be demonstrated in choir, the Christmas pageant, and other musical services.
Acolyte and Crucifer Training and Practice All acolytes and crucifers are asked to meet at front of the sanctuary after the 10:30 service today so that they can participate in the acolyte and crucifer practice.
Church Picnic We are trying something new this year for the church picnic! Please join us after the 10:30am service on Sept 22nd for a potluck lunch in the church yard and parking area. Pulled Pork, Chicken in Alabama white sauce, and hot dogs will be supplied by Good Shepherd. If you’d like some other meat to be grilled, please feel free to bring your own. Mike Mrva of Smokey Legend Barbecue, will be smoking and grilling here on the premises, and lunch will be served outside after the Sunday service. This is a great time to invite friends or family to church who can then share a meal with our church family after the service. Although we are not going to advertise this as a community outreach event, there will be enough food to share with our neighbors who are drawn over to the gathering on that Sunday.
Please take some time to sign-up to help serve or bring a side for Sept 22nd by looking over the sign-up sheet in the parish hall.
Scheduling Reminder If you need to make an appointment with Pastor Matt, please be sure to contact Stephanie directly at gs.binghamton@gmail.com.
Often when people come to speak with Matt after the service on Sunday, he’s already been working for over nine hours, and doesn’t always remember to put it into the calendar. This can cause double bookings or forgotten appointments. Please keep in mind that the office is closed on Mondays and Fridays, but you can always leave a message. Thank you so much for your understanding.

Good Shepherd Food Pantry Every person in this great land of ours should be able to put food on the table to feed their families, but unfortunately some cannot. That’s where pantries like ours can offer assistance. They can help feed those that can’t feed themselves. By keeping our food pantry well stocked throughout the year, we are ensuring that we can share Christ’s love in a real and tangible way.
Please remember that those who use the pantry are depending on your kindness, generosity, and support. Thank you, and God bless.
Items needed: a variety of; soups/stews, one box meals, cereals, peanut butter and jelly, canned meats and tuna, canned fruits and veggies, pasta and sauces, powdered milk and coffee creamers, crackers, and anything else you care to bring.
Cleaning and paper products and personal hygiene products are always greatly appreciated!
Last Week
Last Week’s Sermon given by Matt Kennedy, and was called ‘That the Blind Might See’. It was based on John 9:26-41. It can be listened to or downloaded here.
Preventing Grace Podcast Did you know that Matt and Anne have a podcast? They talk about everything from church polity to rustic breads. In this week’s podcast, ‘Answering A Critic’, Anne and Matt discuss Tullian’ Tchvidian’s new church plant only a few years after his affair and fall. And they answer a critic who argues that Anne needs to have more grace for such things. Plus, you get to hear a fresh new word from the Spirit through the new Passion Edition of the bible.
You can catch up on all of the older podcast episodes here.
Tuesday Morning Bible Study This Tuesday we finished up chapter 3 and moved into Mark 4. We discussed the “unforgivable sin”, the reasons Jesus spoke in parables, and looked carefully at the parable of the soils. You can watch the class at this link or in the window below.

This Week
This Sunday’s Sermon will be based on John 10:1-11, and will be given by Mr. Tyler Van Fossen.
“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door but climbs in by another way, that man is a thief and a robber. But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him the gatekeeper opens. The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. A stranger they will not follow, but they will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.” This figure of speech Jesus used with them, but they did not understand what he was saying to them.
So Jesus again said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
