On the Word ‘Homosexual’ and Bible Translations

June 20, 2019Stephanie WarnerEducation

A parishioner passed along a written interview that has been making its rounds on social media in which the interviewee argues that the word “homosexual” ought never to have appeared in modern biblical translations because the Greek word being translated has always been understood to refer to pederasty. I address the interview point by point in the podcast below. The interview is a wonderful example of how those pushing for the normalization of sexual sin in the church muddy the water, misrepresent facts, and depend on the average Christian’s unfamiliarity with biblical exegesis and hermeneutics to press their arguments.
